Her birth name is Joanne Rowling, but she adopted the name JK by incorporating her grandmother's name, Kathleen, since she doesn't have a middle name. Rowling graduated from Exeter University, and taught English in Portugal in 1990. She married Jorge Arantes, which eventually ended in divorce, but they had a daughter with the name of Jessica. While trying to raise a child as a single parent, Rowling wrote her first book. She struggled in trying to sell it for a while because no one wanted it. She first became an literary sensation in 1999, when the first book in the Harry Potter series became popular throughout the world. Because the first book was so popular, she decided to write six more books to complete the series, which had the same effect on the readers as the first. Rowling is currently married to Neil Murray and has two children (David and Mackenzie) and Jessica from her previous marriage. She was recently titled as Britain's 13th wealthiest woman.
